Mississippi Action for Community Education, Inc. is a non-profit, minority rural development organization created by community leaders in 1967 to stimulate physical, social, and economic development in the rural Mississippi Delta. Very early in its history, MACE learned that beyond the problems of race and poverty, there exists in southern, rural communities the broader, structural problem of underdevelopment; that for genuine community development to occur, the prerequisite human and organizational capacities must first be developed, the basic community social and political structures must first be created.

RE: 34th Annual Mississippi Delta Blues and Heritage Festival and the Delta Dialogue
Mississippi Action for Community Education (MACE) is pleased to organize and host the 7th Annual Delta Dialogue. MACE has long been a leader in fostering social and community development in the Delta. Through its Annual Delta Dialogue, MACE brings together public officials, civic leaders, business, and other sectors to discuss contemporary policy issues facing residents of the Delta.
The topic for this year’s Dialogue is Education Reform in the Delta: Building a Future for our Children. Education reform has been a major national policy issue in recent years. It also has taken center stage in the Delta. Both concerns about the effectiveness of public schools and the current economic crisis make this an important moment in which to discuss reform.
Effective education of our youth (and adults) is vital to MACE. Improved academic performance and literacy rates ensure that the community and economic development initiatives undertaken by MACE produce the positive results we all want to see happen in the Delta.
For the 7th annual Delta Dialogue, MACE will feature presentations and discussions on trends in education, new approaches to boosting student achievement, and hot-button topics such as community engagement and legislative action on school reform issues.
Also, we will feature a panel forum by state legislators and both Democratic and Republican candidates for Governor. Local area legislators will make presentations.
The general public is invited to attend. If you are a parent interested in quality education, you certainly don’t want to miss this event.
Please make plans to attend this very important Delta Dialogue meeting. The event is Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Greenville Higher Education Center in Greenville, MS. It starts at 8:00 am and runs to 2:00 pm. Complimentary breakfast and lunch are provided.
